In the words of former Smiths frontman/now racist tit Morrissey, stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before… Yes, that’s right: a largely limp display with the bat from your intrepid Ramblas saw another chastening defeat in a season full of them.
But before we pick the bones out of what was a disappointing performance, there was some heartening news to celebrate, as Captain Michael Cooper had the honour of presenting Matt Rudgyard with his Baggy Blue to commemorate his 50th appearance for the club.
Indeed, Matt’s milestone was one of very few highlights on the day:
- Coops won the toss! (Fat lot of good it did us, mind…)
- Luke Sheridan put the rest of the top order in the shade, with a brilliantly measured 63 (including a fine 39-run partnership with Laurie Stocks)
- Ian Dacre returned from sunny Seville to bowl brilliantly following a two-year hiatus and was unlucky to only end with the one wicket
And that was pretty much that from a home side perspective.
A largely sub-par batting performance left the visitors chasing a miserly 140, and while some of the bowling was on point, it was always going to take something very special against such seasoned batters, as they rattled off the required runs in 20 overs.
Ramblas MVP A fine knock by Luke Sheridan was the only reason the Ramblas managed to edge out of embarrassment into the ‘we’ve got half a chance’ territory. Respectability remains a lofty goal as the season nears its conclusion.
Onwards, Ramblas faithful.
